Mouse Trap Car Project
Mousetrap Car
Goal: To design and build a car powered by a mousetrap that goes forward as far as possible.
Due Date: February 8th
Track: Gymnasium Floor
Prizes: 1st, 2nd, & 3rd
Awards for Creativity & Distance
Creativity includes; design, construction, & assembly.
Materials:
1. Mousetrap (Supplied by Mr. J)
2. Any other products brought from home or purchased.
Rules & Instructions:
1. Cars can only be powered and started by energy from the mousetrap. No pushes or rolling starts.
2. No kits from hobby or science stores allowed.
3. Parents are allowed to help, but this is a student project
and students should do most of the work.
4. Student/Teams will be given three attempts.
5. The car must have three or more wheels.
6. Only final displacement from starting line will be measured.
For greater distance the car should go in a “straight” line.
7. Toys or other parts of toys can be used with approval.
8. Individuals on teams will be graded on participation and cooperation with other team member.
Parents: This project is meant to be a fun inexpensive physics project. The majority of this project will be done in class. Some designing, planning, and gathering of products will need to be done at home.
* Since Mr. J will not be there on Friday, the final project will be due this coming Monday. Cars need to be completed by Monday, no exceptions.
